Tips On How To Preserve Your Garden Fence Posted By : Eddie Smith- Topic: Gardening News
If at all possible, buy fence wood that has been factory-impregnated with preservative, as this can be a lot more effective in penetrating below the surface of the timber as compared to home applied treatments. Unless fences are made of a natural rot-resisting wood, such as cedar or oak, you’ll also have to treat them on a regular basis with a wood preservative. Re-apply solvent-based products every two or three years and water-based preservatives or creosote every 4 years. If the damage is at dirt level, the most effective way of fixing is by using a concrete spur - this is a small post sunk into the ground alongside the current one and bolted to it to provide support. These can be found in designs both to support a rail which has rotted where the end fits into the post, or to brace a damaged rail in the center. read more
