How many times have you approached a beautiful fence, only to find when you went to pass through the gate that it was a rickety mess that didn’t latch properly? The time to begin building the gate for your fence is before you start on your fence. A quality fence gate will always take longer to build then anticipated, so set up a good spot on a nice flat surface to work on your project. One tip is to begin by “snapping out” the basic outline of your gate on a smooth, level cement surface, using a chalk line and then build on top of your outline, using it as a pattern. If you you build your gate with water logged wood, then after it dries out it will shrink considerably, leading to a weak and wobbly gate. read more

Kandace Cavins deadheads a Bengal Tiger Cana during her morning rounds in the Palmetto garden at Brookgreen Gardens. She designs and cares for several of Brookgreen’s luscious gardens - the Palmetto garden, the muses and the day lily walk. What I believe is I believe that the master creator of all gardens - and that’s God - gives us our talents and our gifts in life. What we do is in spring we remove the dead debris and the die back - things that die during the winter - and then we replant it with new plants, much like life.

Lots of people design their gardens and add all the plants, trees, shrubs and bushes and then that is that, however if you have not thought about adding a water feature to the garden then you will be missing out on something that can help take your garden to the next level. They are that simple to install and maintain that it takes no time to get one in place and setup, the only task that will need to be undertaken will be to clean them to ensure that the pump remains efficient when pushing the water over the outdoor water fountain. It is possible that you may decide on buying two or more outdoor water fountains for various parts of the garden, a contemporary design may suite the patio or decking area where as a traditional one may look good within the actual garden space. Outdoor water fountains are very adaptable and there is no right or wrong design for any garden or outdoor location and they look stylish and elegant wherever they are situated. read more

If you want to have a freestanding but smaller greenhouse structure in your yard, you would want to size the greenhouse to be similar to a storage shed. Small greenhouses for indoors can range in size from the size of a bathtub to the size of a small aquarium. Placing a greenhouse in the shade is almost akin to wasting all the time and money you put into the greenhouse, because without ample sunlight, your plants won’t grow very well. With a small greenhouse, you are already at a disadvantage with temperature and space considerations, so you need to make sure that you take every opportunity to help your plants grow. read more

Whether you have a lot of space and time, or just want to try it out, here are some tips and resources for starting your own vegetable garden. Community Action Coalition Web site provides a handy “Get a Garden” resource that shows which community plots are available in your area of Madison and who to contact to get started. Renting a garden plot typically costs $10–65 on a sliding scale, along with a few hours of volunteer work. You can make a container or small plot vegetable garden if you have limited room. Specialized topics include “The Vegetable Garden” booklet, which provides a chart detailing how deep and how far apart to plant vegetables ranging from asparagus to turnips, and the “Specialized Gardening Techniques” booklet with examples of setting up a garden for a small space or one that is wheelchair-accessible. read more

Underfloor heating is a modernized heating concept, which perhaps owes its origin to the Roman times. As enumerated above, underfloor heating is a mechanically sophisticated version of the ancient principle, which was aimed at creating a warm inside temperature zone. An electrical system of underfloor heating works on a similar mechanism, the key difference being the mode of heating. The system is cheaper in terms of installation charges, and it also takes less time to install the electric underfloor heating. With the particulars of underfloor heating mechanism outlined, it is now imperative to be precisely clear upon the various positives of this system and thus take a final call. And underfloor heating continues to grow in popularity as more and more people realise the advantages the heating system has to offer them. read more

Jumping stilts built on the idea of walking stilts, giving you the ability to walk and run heightened above your regular height. The mega difference is that Jumping Stilts use fiberglass springs, prompting a significant leap upwards or forwards. After you got your jumping stilts, and prior you even experiment your jumping stilts, it is always advised to learn safety instructions and cautionary measures. No matter how much you learn and improve to cruise your jumping stilts, it is always wise to wear the helmet at all times. The shins will make it so the jumping stilts fit a little bit tighter, and on the health safety part, they guard your knees from being damaged when you are running and jumping around for hours. These new (not so new in Europe, though) and extraordinary jumping stilts will allow you to jump high, leap and walk in the way you could not imagine before! read more
